1. Measure height and ceiling clearance

IKEA PAX wardrobes come in two heights: 201 cm (6ft 7in) and 236 cm (7ft 9in). Measure your ceiling height accurately. Standard PAX frames built standing up require at least 210 cm and 244 cm ceiling height respectively. If you have low ceilings, frames must be built flat on the floor and raised, requiring diagonal ceiling clearance.

2. Account for skirting boards and coving

To fit your PAX flush against the wall, you may need to notch out or remove skirting boards, or factor in the gap they create. Sliding doors require a perfectly level frame to operate smoothly.

3. Hinged vs. sliding doors

  • Hinged doors: Require space in front of the wardrobe to open. Easier to adjust and allow full access to all frames simultaneously.
  • Sliding doors: Perfect for tight spaces where hinged doors would hit beds or walls. They add about 8 cm of depth to the wardrobe configuration.

4. Wall anchoring is mandatory

PAX wardrobes are top-heavy, especially when fitted with glass sliding doors or internal drawers. For safety, we anchor all PAX wardrobe frames to the wall using correct fixings for your wall type.
